The aim of the ECVET for Digital Media (EfDM) project is the development of new, vocational ‘European Digital Media’ qualifications.  ECVET stands for European Credit Transfer for Vocational Education and Training. Essentially, the ECVET system allows the transfer of any ECVET course modules studied in any participating and accredited EU VET center so allowing the learner the option to travel to and study in other European countries during the period of their study, with those course credits counting towards their final qualification.

Following ECVET principles and processes, the EfDM project will work with Cyber Salon, a UK-based ‘Technology Partner’ and VET Partners in five EU countries (Ireland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain and the UK) to develop a suite of European Digital Media VET qualifications.

Upon completion of the project, learners will be able to start their qualification with a training provider in one of these EU countries and have the option to transfer any credits gained to date to another training provider in another of the partner countries, complete the course and be awarded the qualification. It is hoped that after the project end, the qualification will be taken up by other VET establishments in the partner countries and in other EU countries.

The project will enhance and update existing UK City & Guilds qualifications at European Qualification Framework (EQF) levels 4 and 5 that are already offered by some of the project partners (more details available HERE.) Importantly, and a distinctive feature of the qualification is the development of new content related to digital entrepreneurship and European/international issues with a specific focus on digital marketing.

This will be incorporated into the new course curricula that break down into five key areas:

1. Technical Elements – content management systems & principles of internet search and discovery: setting up new domains, websites and hosting (eg using WordPress, Squarespace, etc) to create and build websites.

2. Creative Aspects – creating and optimising content for the web – optimisation of media for streaming or mobile delivery and optimising content for search engine indexing.

3. Strategic/Business Factors – principles of data-driven marketing & social media advertising: introductions to social media advertising and related, data-driven optimisation processes.

4. Digital Entrepreneurship – equipping learners with skills and knowledge to work as digital media freelancers or engage in enterprise start-ups within the sector. Also includes digital intrapreneurship ie using these skills and knowledge as an employee in a corporate environment.

5. European/International Factors – incorporating data management and privacy issues, relevant European and International legislation and cultural factors applicable in different countries, cultures and languages
The modular structure of the qualification means that individual learners can choose what modules they would like to study and the type of qualification they will achieve (award: 1 unit, certificate: 2–4 units or diploma: 5 units).
